Why this publication exists

Kolva Compendium began as a private coaching journal. In early 2024, James Wilson — then working with a small group of weight-awareness coaching participants in north London — began keeping a structured record of the patterns he observed across client sessions. Not outcomes. Not before-and-after photographs. Patterns: what people ate in the hour after a morning walk, how sleep disruption appeared to influence afternoon snack choices, which meals participants described as satisfying and which left them restless.

The journal grew over the course of a year. By late 2024, it contained enough material to warrant a more formal structure — and the decision was made to publish. Not as a programme, not as a guide, but as an archive: a public record of observed patterns in gradual weight management, written with editorial rigour and without commercial motive.

The name Kolva Compendium reflects that origin. A compendium is a collection of concise but detailed information on a particular subject. That is what this publication attempts to be — not a definitive guide to weight management, but a thorough, honest, and ongoing record of what the coaching process actually looks like from the inside.

James Wilson

Lead Editor & Coaching Writer

James Wilson is the founder and lead editor of Kolva Compendium. Based in London, he has spent over a decade working within weight awareness coaching practice, focusing particularly on the behavioural habit patterns associated with gradual, sustainable change. His editorial writing documents what he observes in coaching sessions — the morning routines, the sleep patterns, the meal choices — without prescribing outcomes.

James holds a background in behavioural habit research and writes from the position of an observer rather than an authority. His work has been informed by published nutritional and habit science literature, which he cites where relevant within articles.

Oliver Clarke

Contributing Writer — Nutrition & Meal Habits

Oliver Clarke is a contributing writer at Kolva Compendium, focusing on nutrition observation, meal composition, and the daily eating patterns that support gradual weight awareness. His writing approach is documentary: he records what coaching participants notice in their own journals, rather than issuing prescriptions.

Oliver joined the publication in early 2026 to contribute a dedicated nutrition perspective to the Compendium archive. His work is grounded in published behavioural nutrition research and his own extensive coaching field notes.

How we approach the archive

01

Observation over prescription

The Compendium records what is observed in coaching contexts, not what we believe people should do. Every article documents a pattern rather than recommending a programme. The editorial voice is that of a careful observer, not an authority.

02

Evidence-informed sources

Content published by Kolva Compendium is selected based on published behavioural and nutritional research, and reviewed for editorial accuracy by a second editor before publication. Sources are cited within articles where peer-reviewed literature is available.

03

No commercial relationships

The Compendium does not accept sponsored content, affiliate arrangements, or product endorsements. Writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter. To date, no such relationships exist.

04

Gradual change as the only frame

The publication does not document rapid change, overnight results, or dramatic transformations. These are not the patterns observed in the coaching work that informs the archive. Every article is framed around gradual, incremental, and undramatic practice — because that is what the evidence and the field notes consistently reflect.

05

Corrections are published openly

If an article contains an error — factual, contextual, or editorial — a correction note is added to the published piece and disclosed at the top of the article. We do not silently edit or delete content once published.

Kolva Compendium is an independent editorial publication covering daily habits, sustainable routines, and coaching perspectives on gradual weight management. The publication is not affiliated with any commercial, governmental, or institutional body.
